POTSDAM CENTRAL ALUMNI ORGANIZE

Graduates of Potsdam Central have always had strong ties to their alma mater and fellow classmates, but a newly established alumni association will formally support and enhance this relationship. The organization will promote lifelong connections among fellow alumni, PCS students, and its faculty and staff.

A comprehensive database is being created to keep graduates informed of school endeavors, provide a valuable resource to class reunion organizers, assist in the development of association programs and strengthen alumni connections. Association membership will include those individuals who completed their graduation requirements at another institution, such as a prep school or The Clarkson School.

Graduates are asked to log on to the alumni Association website at www.PotsdamCentralAlumni.blogspot.com and complete a data form so they can be included on the database. The alumni blog will provide opportunity to post messages and link to Potsdam Central, as well as individual class blogs. Alumni without computer access can provide the database information by contacting Gail and Jim Baxter (Class of ’65) at 315-265-2645.

I am so sorry I missed the reunion but I have enjoyed reading everyone's news, and l loved seeing the pictures.

I finally made a trip north in October. Potsdam has changed a lot in the 5 years since I've been home. I was able to spend time with my son, Brian who is an Officer, stationed at Fort Drum. He will be going to Afghanistan soon. My younger son Kevin and daughter, Kallie are students at Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida. Husband, Bruce travels between Minneapolis and Fort Lauderdale while we keep a residence here.

I hope this blog continues. It's fun to remember so many classmates. I'm slow with email but will respond! Anyone in the Fort Lauderdale area, look me up. Judy Fadden Buchholz

We're still in Massena, will be married 38 yrs in November; 3 grown boys: ages 36 , 34, and 32. 5 grandchildren,( 3 boys and 2 girls). oldest is 17, youngest is 5 days.

Still working as an RN, doing Infection and Employee Health at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. I enjoy horseback riding and just recently bought a motorcycle and am having fun mastering that. Don't hardly ever see any of my classmates and was looking forward to our reunion, sorry I didn't make it ....

Hi Everyone,

I have been married to Bill Gilmore (PCS ’66) for almost 32 years. We have 3 kids, Gregg (our son together) and Rob and Lisa (from my marriage to Bob Sharlow.) Rob and his wife Terisa have four sons. Brandon and Josh (who are Teri’s sons from a previous marriage) and Taylor (age 9) and Casey (age 7). Lisa and her husband Steve have two sons, Garrett (age 9) and Alec (age 7). Teri and Lisa were both pregnant at the same time and delivered within a few weeks of each other both times. Bill and I love being grandparents and feel so blessed to have our kids nearby Rob and Teri live in Liverpool, NY and Lisa and Steve in Parishville, NY. Gregg and his girlfriend Trina live in Canton and we hope that one day they will add more grandchildren to the family.

Bill retired last September after working for the Potsdam DPW for over 30 years. I have been an administrative secretary in the alumni office at St. Lawrence University for 23 years and hope to retire in a few years. Bill and I have lived in Hannawa Falls for over 28 years and love it there.

We enjoyed seeing everyone at the the Shore Lounge on Friday night.

Thanks to Martha and Marcia for putting it together. As Marcia will attest, I had every intention of coming up, but due to a construction project reschedule at my home I was, unfortunately, unable to. Seeing the blog pictures emphasized even more that I missed out. Attached are a couple of photos.

While trying to figure out how to post something on the blog and not having much luck, I noticed you did it for me the other day in posting the email I sent you. Thanks for that.

I've always done as much in my life as possible without using computers, even running two NY nightclubs at once, promoting 250 concerts a year. Which means I've got the computer skills of an 8-year old (but I still managed to get everything done somehow). I even still have the Royal manual (!) typewriter I used to write music articles for nearly 20 years before I stopped doing that sort of stuff to become a concert promoter. By the way, anyone can have my email address, since I know I didn't mention that to you before: steveweitzman10@hotmail.com.

I thought this accompanying photo for the blog, taken in the Fall of 1982 of me presenting a trophy to a then 23 year old Magic Johnson of the Lakers might be a fun one for people to see. The logical question is why in heck would I be giving Magic a trophy for anything, and the quick answer is that I invented the statistical rating system back then that the National Basketball Association still uses to rate players (it's now called the Schick Pivotal Player Award after they decided to sponsor it the following year). The Lakers arranged for me to give Magic that first trophy for winning it in '82, and since that was before they had Schick as the sponsor, I made the presentation in their locker room before a Nets game. The photographer's flash was a bit weak so the pics came out a little dark. For years, my mother had that photo above the TV in the living room and when guests would come over to their house, she'd point to it and say, "Those are my two sons." Funny woman. Our ace Potsdam High basketball star Bob Sharlow will probably enjoy the pic. That was definitely a fun day. Even a die-hard Celtic fan (and Laker-hater) like me got a kick out hanging out with Magic Johnson for a bit and giving him his trophy. He was very cool - and EXTREMELY pleased when I told him he beat out Larry Bird (his arch-rival) for the award.

Anyway, have a great weekend everybody and sorry I can't be there.

Candi LaCoss Deon here! I have made every reunion so far. I been married to Donald for 38 years this October. I have three sons. Michael is married and expecting his first child (son Christopher). Mark is a disabled vet and is continuing his education. He has a son Alexander Fremont Via-Deon. A big name for a two year old. I have helped in scouting and had a small ceramic painting class. I stopped when I was diagnoised with breast cancer. I am a two and half year survivor.

I had an awesome time at the reunion. It was good to see everyone and learn about what they are up to. I commend both Martha H. and Marcia B. as well as John L. and everyone else that helped to make it an enjoyable evening. The sad part was remembering those of us who are not with us now.

Hi fellow class of 68'ers. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it up to Potsdam for the reunion. Hats off to all those who can -- the list is very impressive! Just seeing the class roster & the blogs has rekindled so many great memories and feelings. I currently live in Amherst NY & own a photography studio -- http://www.wilmackphotography.com/.

I have a family of four -- one daughter graduated from SUNY Binghamton this past May & is working & living in Manhattan. My other daughter is going into her senior year at SUNY Geneseo. Family photo from '06 is attached. My wife, Shelly is retired & I will be likewise by the end of '09. Hopefully at that point I will pursue some type of musical path. In that regard I say to Jon Gillaspie, boo Clan, yeah Queen's Gambit!!

Hiya! I'm still living the dream here in London, a few minutes walk from the Thames. Sadly I won't make the reunion since I have a book to finish this summer (The Wind Ensemble Thematic Catalog - ho hum...) and the research to finish for Elgar: TheEarly Years.

I spent a large part of the 90s in the field in Europe working on 18th and 19th century wind bands, and the present book is the third in the series. As a result of the research I also started a classical music publishing company, Sarastro Music and, although not yet in the Big League, it's doing fine - and I'm enjoying reviving lots of music that should never have been forgotten. I don't record as much as I used to but still keep my hand in, as well as being an occasional extra in films (but, sadly, not in any of the Harry Potters!).

I don't get to see the two grandchildren as often as I'd like to since they live at the other end of the country, but we keep in touch by phone, e-mail and letters (remember those?).

Anyhow, have a great reunion!!! Maybe I'll see everyone at the 50th! Cheers...

Hello everyone,

It is certainly hard to believe that 40 years have passed. Bill and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

We still live in North Bay, Ontario on beautiful Lake Nipissing. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary recently. Bill retired from teaching in 2001. I am Manager of Client Services for the CCAC here in North Bay (the provincial access centre for in-home and community health services).

We have one daughter, two sons and eight grandchildren.

Our daughter Carrie and her family live about 10 minutes away.

Billy and his family live in Charleston, South Carolina.

Our youngest son, Steve, and his family are about 5 minutes away.

We have a busy life as six of the grandchildren are close by and many days Grandpa is the chief chauffeur for soccer, swimming and of course hockey.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone! Potsdam has a special place in our life and hearts.

Hi Marcia, I seriously doubt I'm going to be able to get up there from New York City for the reunion this weekend (I was hoping I could) but would love to hear after the fact who actually did attend. I'm launching a new company and it's taking up all my time. I'm sure everyone's going to have a great time. The last reunion I went to was the 10th and it was fun.

Hello to my fellow classmates, I'm sorry I won't be in Potsdam to join you for this momentous 40th Class Reunion. After spending most of my 58 years in Potsdam, I recently moved to Lancaster, California to be closer to my daughter, Melissa and her husband Greg. My son, Johnny and wife Denise live in Pennsburg, PA. They have a daughter, Abbey. My first grandchild, what a joy grandchildren are. Here's a picture of us together.

I've lived in Potsdam for most of my life after high school, my MS mostly keeping me close to home, except in May of 2004, when my friends from PCS class of 1968 offered to help me get to my son's wedding in Gorey, Ireland.

Linda Frank McDonald and Linda Hobson Albrecht journeyed with me to help celebrate the wedding. We spent a week in Ireland, touring the countryside. Hobson was our chauffeur and Frankie the co-pilot. (Lots of 'curb alerts'). I was the backseat driver, say no more. We saw so many beautiful things, memories I'll cherish forever. Truly a dream come true.

Before we left Potsdam, we formed a Redhat Society group named the Sandstoner Redhats. We took our colors and alma mater seriously and found another group of redhatters in Ireland (a whole bus of them) from Florida, USA, of all things.

Todd Gambling here...I remember a lot of great times at Potsdam High.... got started in photography there, which I'm still involved in, and got to play in a rock band...still doing that too (www.thelids.org I'm the old geezer at the bottom of the pic). Left Potsdam when my family moved to Chapel Hill NC in the mid 70's. By that time, I had completed my training in electron microscopy, and have worked at Duke and Carolina (UNC) ever since.Been married over 30 years now and have three adult children: Liza is a costume maker in Hollywood, Meghan is a writer in Hollywood and Barre is Metal guitarist/construction worker in Raleigh NC (www.daylightdies.com for you Heavy Metal fans).The rugged, isolated and beautiful North Country makes good people, and I feel very fortunate to have grown up there. I have had an amazing time talking with old classmates while planning this reunion! Talk about stirring up old memories! To date, we have about 40 classmates coming to the get-together on Friday night and the same number for the dinner/dance on Saturday night. We have classmates coming from as far as Croatia, Colorado, Florida, and California, just to name a few. I might add, some of the people attending on Friday are not coming on Saturday and some of the people attending on Saturday are not coming on Friday, so it will be a different crowd both nights. Many of you are talking about grandchildren and posting pictures on this blog, so I decided to add some information myself.

My husband Alan and I have three children, Derek, age 37; Heather, almost 32; and Alicia, almost 27. Derek is married to a wonderful woman, Jamie, and they bought Alan’s parents’ home in Colton, NY. Derek manages a furniture store and Jamie is a social worker. Heather works for Air Force ROTC at Clarkson University and she also lives in Colton. She has a little boy, Cayden, who is 7 years old. Being a grandmother is absolutely amazing and having them live so close is an added bonus. We are able to baby sit quite often. Alicia lives in Manlius, NY (just outside of Syracuse). She is a physical therapist and works for a private practice in East Syracuse. Alan retired from National Grid almost five years ago and loves every minute of retirement. He does consulting for a company out of Syracuse and works about 8 weeks out of the year. He also teaches an electrical distribution class to adults at BOCES every fall. I retired from Clarkson University three years ago and I have a very part-time job at St. Lawrence University. I work about 19 hours a week, 9 months a year, for the University Chaplain. I love my job!

We enjoy spending our summers on the water at Higley Flow. It’s a great place for our family and friends to get together and relax.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you in a few weeks!

I’ll be at St Lawrence for a conference July 21-25, but I have to be back in Troy on the night of the 25th for an art opening. I continue to be the master of Great Timing…perhaps I’ll make the 50th .

Hi everyone,I am enjoying reading all of your updates. After quite a few years in the Syracuse area, we have lived in Florida,Wisconsin and now back in Florida...not retired, though! Our children are nearly "out of the house", oldest graduated from Cornell and is an Army Officer stationed for now at Fort Drum. Our youngest just graduated from high school in May and will join her older brother at Florida State in Tallahassee. My husband still travels, now mostly in the U.S. and I work for Broward County Libraries... my dream job, doing book reviews and booktalks etc. I know, it doesn't sound too exciting! Hi Martha - it was so good of you and Marcia to put together our 40th, although that number gets caught in my brain as being impossible for people who are still just a little past 20yrs. old!

When Bob and his siblings set July 5th as his Mom's memorial service date in Potsdam in early Jan., I did hope then that it might work for timing of any reunion if one were to be planned, but realized that it probably wouldn't because the 4th is already such a busy time for families.

My family also set a reunion in Lake Placid the week before so we are taking our summer vacation for both these events and sadly, that means we won't be making the trek back at the end of July as much as we would like to reconnect with all the dear hearts of our school years.

I feel so very lucky to have been part of all your lives in that town and feel I have the very best of what is grown there in love, faith and generosity in the person of Bob. We often (thankfully between the 2 of us we get most of the details, and who knows to quibble anyway) bring up stories or incidents from our high school years - at heart we are just 2 kids still from upstate New York.

I have enjoyed reading the updates from all of you. I have been in the Hot-ltanta area for the past 26 years and recently retired from a 35 year teaching career which started in Canton, NY, then Rochester, NY, on to Munising, Michigan (I was a Yooper for 5 years) and finally a big move to Woodstock, Georgia and suburb of Atlanta.

If you ever get to Marietta, Georgia, check out the Marietta Square as my handprints are there on the Cobb County walk of Teachers of the Year. It was the highlight of my career as the district is the second largest in Georgia and one of the largest in the US.

The pictures are of us in the Alaskan Wilderness, the Alaskan glaciers, White Water Rafting, and cross country skiing in NH.

Bruce Stokes, my best friend and husband of 35 years (the only thing older than our marriage is our canoe he bought that before we were married), and I have two beautiful adult children. Our oldest is Nathan Stokes, a computer engineer, who followed in his dad’s footsteps and went to Clarkson and is now living in Syracuse, NY working for Syracuse Research Corp. He gets to test equipment in Black Hawk helicopters. Our daughter, Heather Stokes Wurst, a chemical engineer from arch rival RPI, is working for Merck in Pennsylvania. It’s a bit ironical that both of our children now live in the north - a role reversal? Heather has been married for two years and sometime in the future I expect to be a grandmother. I understand that it is just fabulous. My daughter kids me about having substitute grandchildren, especially when I go to my friend’s house and play with her one year old twins.

I will not be able to attend the reunion, as much as I would like to. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March of 2006, and I am presently in my second round of chemotherapy trying to keep it at bay. It has been quite a journey for my family and I know that I am blessed.

Last summer, my daughter and her husband asked us to join them in a camping trip to Alaska. I had just finished my chemo and we met them in Anchorage and had an absolutely fabulous trip hiking, cycling, and camping. We stayed at Wonder Lake (a five hour ride on a school bus) and hunted for the elusive Denali. To our surprise, the clouds broke for a mere 10 minutes and we marveled at her size and beauty.

Over Labor Day, my very adventurous sister, invited us to go White Water rafting on the Ocoee River and we had a blast. We have reserved our spot for this year! This past Christmas, we stayed with Nathan in Syracuse and he drove us in a blinding snowstorm to the White Mountains where we met my daughter and son-in-law and his family. After an absence of 26 years without cross country skiing, I picked up the rhythm with ease. Only once did a tree and I have a falling out.

It’s hard trying to catch up for 40 years. What was even harder was the fact that my brother Robert, who still runs Martin’s Gas Station, called me one day and asked if I was going to attend the reunion. I said what reunion? He declared it was my 40th from high school, as someone stopped in the gas station and asked him. I accused him of begin crazy as I didn’t believe it had been 40 years until I did the math. Retirement is wonderful if you keep yourself busy with family, friends, reading, quilting, and traveling. Sometimes, I wonder where I found time to work!

I hope that everyone has a great time reminiscing (that’s another sign of our advancing years). I know that over the past 40 years, I have been blessed with a wonderful and caring family and group of friends. Remember, life is precious!

Personally I think that anyone who has retired TWICE (ie Peter) should not be allowed to blog since most of us are still working and don't have time to read his comments, smile.

I have had huge changes in the last year, including being married to a wonderful man, Bob, last September. A few months later, we bought an old farm house and 35 acres of land, with river frontage on the Grasse River, in Madrid. A few days ago, we had Tim and Mary Beth over for dinner and to have Tim help us find our property lines. Bob and I are in the process of trying to sell 7 Grant St property and his former home in Madrid. We now know what the phrase "house poor" means.

We were married in our backyard with just a few friends as witnesses. We vowed to have a huge celebration in the summer so all our children and friends could attend. Unfortunately, we picked the same day as the reunion on July 26th. We'll be able to attend the Friday get together, hopefully. Of course, anyone who can't make the recepion at Segi's is more than welcome to come here. I'm not trying to kidnap any former classmates just want to let you know that you're always welcome. Thanks to Marcia and Martha (the 2 M's) for being so organized!!

* Friday night CASUAL GATHERING at the Shore Lounge in Hannawa Falls
* Saturday morning GOLF for those who pre-register
* Saturday afternoon TOUR of the high school for those interested (there have been lots of changes in 40 years)
* Saturday evening DINNER DANCE at Sergi's

We will soon post and mail event details and a response form. As we receive responses, we will post a list of classmates you can plan to see at the Reunion and their contact information if they want it published.

Our 40th Reunion Weekend has been set for July 25 and 26. Tentative plans include a Friday night casual gathering, possibly a tour of the school on Saturday for those interested, and a dinner/dance on Saturday night. (Golf anyone?? Let us know if you're interested in a golf outing on Saturday.) We are still working on event locations.

Hi everyone and Happy New Year from Martha Hartle to all members of the PCS Class of '68! Although we all know we are not getting older but better, this year marks our 40th year since graduating from Potsdam High School in 1968.

I've decided to begin this blog, which I hope will gather momentum and postings so that we can keep everyone in touch and up to date. As well, I hope we can use the blog as our main means of sharing information about our next Reunion. It's an easy way to share news and links. Mail or e-mail your favorite photos to me and I will post them on the blog.

First, let me share some personal updates. Most importantly, I am now a Grandmother (known as Bammie - my family's nickname for grandmother). Ben was born on November 1, 2007. My daughter Angela and her husband Keith are the proud parents.

I live in Hartford, CT and am an administrator at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center http://www.stfranciscare.org/

Angela, Keith and Ben live nearby and my son, Brad, lives in South Carolina. I own a condo just down the street from the Hospital. I've been in CT (since 2004) after spending one year in Boston.

I hope to keep in touch with many of you and that we can build a thorough directory of our classmates so that we can include them in our Reunion plans. All you need to do is enter your e-mail address and a password when you are prompted before posting your first "comment." Please try it and encourage others to do the same. For those folks not using e-mail, ask them for their home address and phone number so that we can contact them.
